Mentoring is a modern-day version of the master-journeyman teaching method; a skillful, experienced “master” takes a younger, less-experienced “novice” under his/her wing. At its best, mentoring is an enriching exchange of information and ideas which promotes learning for both parties.
Mentoring might continue over a long period. First the learner sets a goal. Tieturi’s mentor program offers tutoring, counseling, and teaching as well as small-scale consulting.
On the way to the goal
The parties meet e.g. once a week. Usually, each meeting lasts for about three hours. At the beginning of the first meeting the parties set up the goals of mentoring and become acquainted with the learner’s working environment. The progress will be written down into the “mentor diary” and the mentor provides feedback on progress made. In this way the goals and expected results will be reached.
- Typical examples of mentoring at Tieturi
- Improving leadership or communicative skills
- Improving of requirement specification skills
- Improving of the practical skills of a project manager
- Rationalizing the usage of an application
Mentors
A mentor is an adviser with extensive experience and expertise.
A Tieturi Training Passport covers sessions with a mentor: one meeting equals one training day.
