This 1-day introductory course introduces the essentials of Change Management, its relationship to project management and its role in achieving initiative outcomes and benefits.

organisational change varies widely, from scenarios like system rollouts and product releases to organisational structural re-design and cultural shifts – so there is no single approach.

We explore two core elements:

  • The process of change: popular theories / models and practical tools for assessing the breadth, depth and impact of change on business operations
  • The people side of change: stakeholder engagement / communication strategies, and understanding human responses, including resistance and how to address it

Th day includes interactive exercises and a short generic case study to build confidence in supporting change initiatives. This course is ideal for those involved in change but not necessarily managing it and serves as a strong foundation for a career in change management.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the need for change and some key definitions
  • Identify challenges in business change management and benefits realisation relative to their respective roles
  • Conduct a business change impact assessment
  • Outline the scope and typical activities involved in managing business change
  • Recognise common causes of resistance and apply strategies to minimise them
  • Use practical tools and techniques to support their change management responsibilities

This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to gain an overview of the discipline of change management as well as those who wish to formalise practical experience with an understanding of accepted best practice theories and approaches. Typical attendees include:

  • Those acting as change agents / champions / advocates, or about to step into such a role
  • Project Managers who need a wider appreciation of the ‘people side’ of change, either because they need to take on some change management responsibilities, or interface with change specialists
  • Change management professionals (new to role) who wish to get an overview of the topic before undertaking a formal qualification, such as APMG Change Management
  • Anyone contributing to the design, development and delivery of an organisational change initiative
  • Team members involved with the delivery of a change initiative or who will impacted by the delivery of a change initiative

  • Defining Change Management (and understanding the need for change)
  • Understanding essential change management theories and models
  • Practical tools to initiate change
  • Roles and responsibilities involved in change management
  • Human reaction and behaviours towards change
  • Personal transitions and overcoming resistance
  • Change Impact Analysis
  • Embedding, sustaining and measuring change success

Exams and assessments

Whilst there is no formal assessment within this course, topics align with the APMG Change Management Foundation and Practitioner.
