Overview
The AI leadership – AI strategy and opportunity apprenticeship unit is a five-day live training programme designed for senior leaders and managers responsible for guiding AI adoption and organisational transformation. This unit builds practical leadership capability in artificial intelligence, enabling learners to translate AI potential into strategic value.
The programme develops AI literacy for decision-makers, focusing on strategic alignment, governance, risk management, and ethical leadership. Learners explore the capabilities and limitations of AI technologies, assess organisational readiness, and develop structured approaches to identifying, prioritising, and commissioning AI initiatives.

Outline
Module 1: Foundations of AI leadership, impact, and opportunity
You will explore the current state of AI, including key developments, typical use cases, and limitations. The module focuses on adopting a problem-first mindset, understanding where AI can genuinely help, and recognising where organisations often fail to realise value.
Module 2: Responsible AI, ethics, and leadership accountability
You will examine the risks, legal frameworks, and ethical considerations associated with AI, including data protection, fairness, and governance. The module introduces strategic thinking through objectives and key results (OKRs) and explores how to design AI solutions with effective human oversight.
Module 3: Identifying and assessing AI opportunities
This module focuses on identifying and evaluating AI opportunities within your organisation. You will learn how to analyse ROI, conduct cost–benefit analysis, map customer journeys, and prioritise initiatives using structured frameworks.
Module 4: Strategy formation, prioritisation, and stakeholder engagement
You will learn how to design a complete AI strategy aligned to organisational goals. This includes selecting a competitive approach (cost leadership, differentiation, or focus), building defensible advantages, and defining a structured strategy covering vision, operating model, governance, workforce, and delivery.
You will also explore operating models such as centralised AI teams, hub-and-spoke structures, and emerging agentic organisations where AI plays an active role in workflows. The session includes building a workforce plan covering upskilling, reskilling, and new AI-related roles. Finally, you will develop a draft AI strategy and learn how to secure stakeholder support and manage organisational change.
Module 5: Future‑proofing AI strategy
The final module focuses on how organisations can stay ahead in a rapidly evolving AI landscape. You will learn horizon scanning techniques to track emerging technologies, regulatory developments, and competitive trends.
You will also explore AI agents and their role in enabling more autonomous, goal-driven systems, and consider how these technologies may reshape organisational workflows. The module concludes with a consolidation of key learning from the programme and practical guidance on applying it within your organisation.
Programme outcome
By the end of the programme, you will be equipped to confidently evaluate AI opportunities, develop a clear and actionable strategy, and lead responsible AI adoption within your organisation. You will move from understanding AI conceptually to applying it strategically and operationally.
