Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift Boot Camp – Classroom Training

Access expert-led QA training live online, wherever you learn best.

Overview

This intensive boot camp prepares administrators to manage Red Hat’s implementation of Kubernetes—Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform—at enterprise scale. It provides foundational and advanced knowledge required to install, configure, and operate Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift. Learners will explore Kubernetes, OpenShift CLI and APIs, container management, declarative infrastructure, and advanced cluster administration.

Built on OpenShift Container Platform 4.14 and Red Hat OpenStack Services 18.0, this course also includes one year of Red Hat Learning Subscription Standard, with unlimited online course access, five unique exam attempts, and exam retakes where needed.

Prerequisites

Participants should have:

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) status or equivalent experience
  • A working knowledge of Linux system administration
  • Familiarity with container technology and basic networking concepts

Target audience

This course is designed for:

  • System administrators managing Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift
  • OpenStack operators responsible for Day 2 operations
  • Engineers supporting the day-to-day operation of OpenShift and OpenStack platforms

Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Configure and manage OpenShift Container Platform clusters at enterprise scale
  • Secure applications, users, and networking within OpenShift
  • Integrate OpenShift with authentication systems, storage solutions, and GitOps workflows
  • Deploy and troubleshoot containerised applications using pods and custom resources
  • Monitor and maintain OpenStack control plane and compute services on OpenShift
  • Use Kubernetes and OpenShift APIs for system management and automation
  • Apply best practices in observability, governance, and multicluster management using RHACM

Outline

Introduction to Kubernetes and OpenShift

  • Overview of Kubernetes cluster services and OpenShift platform capabilities
  • Using the web console for cluster visibility and monitoring

Kubernetes and OpenShift command-line interfaces and APIs

  • Accessing OpenShift from the CLI
  • Querying Kubernetes API resources for cluster health

Run applications as containers and pods

  • Deploying and troubleshooting containerised workloads as Kubernetes pods

Manage storage for application configuration and data

  • Externalising configurations with Kubernetes resources
  • Provisioning persistent storage volumes for application data

Declarative resource management

  • Using resource manifests for deploying and updating applications
  • Parameterising templates for multiple environments

Authentication and authorization

  • Setting up identity providers (e.g., HTPasswd)
  • Assigning roles and permissions to users and groups

Network security

  • Securing network traffic within and beyond the OpenShift cluster

OpenShift updates, logging, and monitoring

  • Performing OpenShift updates with minimal disruption
  • Troubleshooting cluster performance and availability issues
  • Deploying centralised logging and querying logs from workloads and nodes

Managing clusters with Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RHACM)

  • Importing and managing clusters using the RHACM console
  • Configuring user access and troubleshooting cluster imports

Deploying and managing policies for multiple clusters with RHACM

  • Applying governance policies in a multicluster environment

Enabling and customising observability with RHACM

  • Monitoring clusters at scale
  • Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks

OpenStack administration: control plane management

  • Navigating OpenShift’s architecture, CLI, and GUI for OpenStack resources
  • Assessing the health of OpenStack services and operators on OpenShift

Exams and assessments

There are no formal exams as part of this course. However, learners benefit from access to five Red Hat certification exams via the included Red Hat Learning Subscription Standard. Retakes are included for unsuccessful attempts.

Hands-on learning

Learners engage in extensive hands-on labs and guided exercises covering:

  • Real-world scenarios in OpenShift and OpenStack
  • Practical configuration and troubleshooting of cluster services
  • Policy deployment, observability, and automation with Kubernetes and Ansible
