Overview
This course focuses on the use of AI tools by business analysts (BAs). It equips learners with the practical skills necessary to use AI tools in the requirements elicitation and analysis activities of software development projects. A practical expert led course approach introduces through demonstration and hands-on exercises how AI can accelerate, deepen and broaden BA workflows producing documents such as user stories, acceptance criteria, as well as business process descriptions and diagrams.
In addition, learners will explore how AI tools can facilitate collaboration between BAs and other stakeholders. Course participants will gain confidence working with AI tools by writing and executing live prompts to generate the key BA documents mentioned above amongst others.
Prerequisites
Participants should have:
- Some experience acting in a Business Analysis role.
- A laptop or desktop computer (mobile/tablet not suitable) with access to a major AI chatbot – for example, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or similar.
- No prior AI experience is required.
Target Audience
This course is designed for:
- Business Analysts already familiar with software requirements elicitation and analysis and who want to extend their skills into the use of AI‑powered tools to accelerate, deepen and broaden their work.
- Designers seeking to bridge the gap between design and engineering using modern AI workflows.
Objectives
By the end of this course learners will be able to apply an AI prompt framework for a variety of requirements elicitation and analysis tasks.
- Convert unstructured meeting notes into a categorised requirements set (User stories, Functional, Non-Functional, Constraints, Assumptions) using AI.
- Generate a tailored stakeholder interview question bank from a project brief using a structured AI prompt.
- Use a ‘What’s missing?’ AI prompt to perform a gap analysis on a completed story set catching structural gaps that both the BA and AI may have overlooked during initial generation.
- Use AI to draft a structured AS-IS process narrative from a verbal or written description, including process actors, steps, decision points, and handoffs.
- Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and automation opportunities in an AI-generated AS-IS process narrative. Suggest TO-BE process improvements.
- Translate operational data analysis insights into structured stakeholder recommendations using the ‘Because X, we recommend Y’ framework.
- Apply anti-hallucination prompt techniques to reduce the risk of AI generating inaccurate facts, figures, or regulatory claims.
